Drafthouse Films
As many of you may have heard, our film distribution arm Drafthouse Films, in conjunction with Magnet and Timpson Films, is making a horror anthology called The ABCs of Death; it’ll have 26 short films, one for each letter of the alphabet, each with a different way to die. Some of the best up and coming genre directors in the world have been recruited to make shorts, including Ti West, Nacho Vigalondo, Jason Eisner, Angela Bettis, Simon Rumley and more. But one spot has been left open for a brand new director to join these ranks.
Over on the ABC's of Death website, there are hundreds of entries from filmmakers from all over the world. Filmmakers of varying talents, languages, visions and ideas have posted their videos for you to vote on. It's an incredibly diverse competition, and some of the stuff over there is absolutely brilliant. We need your input to decide who gets to have their film seen in a feature film by audiences everywhere.
The contest, which ends 10/31, includes 170 short films from from UK, USA, Australia, Japan, France, Spain, Columbia, Ukraine, New Zealand, Croatia, Germany, Argentina, Canada, Mexico, Indonesia, Poland, Quebec, Chile. The competition has yielded over 35,000 individual votes so far, so chime in with yours!
Producers Tim League and Ant Timpson have written this letter to the contestants:
To THE ABCs OF DEATH 26th Director Filmmakers,
When we approached Magnolia Pictures with the concept of a 26th Director competition being part of the THE ABCs OF DEATH feature film, they were excited as us. And yet the idea that a wildcard filmmaker could end up with a short inside thefeature film still sounded risky to all of us to say the least!
However we’d like to make it official just how f**king ecstatic we are with the competition overall. The number of entries exceeded all expectations and so did the level of creativity and imagination on display. The talent shown in several submissions has been world class and foretells of a great future for horror cinema.
Since there can be only one eventual winner, we want to take a moment to acknowledge that a number of great submissions could have easily been included in the feature film.
Unfortunately though there can be only one, which will be revealed on November 15th, 2011.
And so to every individual who participated in whatever capacity in THE ABCs OF DEATH 26th Director competition…
