BULLHEAD Filmmaker Named One Of Variety’s “10 Directors To Watch”
Drafthouse Films congratulates Michaël R. Roskam on being named one of Variety’s “10 Directors To Watch," on the heels of the immense critical acclaim garnered by his stunning debut film BULLHEAD. Eric Kohn of IndieWire noted that “watching BULLHEAD it's easy to imagine that Roskam could inherit the heated world of double-crossers and violent avengers that put Martin Scorsese on the map.” Variety announced their list today and an expanded print article with full director profiles will hit stands on January 6th.
BULLHEAD is a remarkable tale of revenge and redemption set against the backdrop of the Belgian bovine hormone mafia and is Belgium’s official 2012 Oscar® candidate for Best Foreign Language Film. The film has been widely lauded by critics and film fans alike, described as “one of the most powerful experiences I’ve had in a film this year” by Drew McWeeny of HitFix. AFI Fest recently bestowed BULLHEAD with two major awards, the New Auteurs Audience Award and the New Auteurs Critic's Prize For Best Actor to Matthias Schoenaers for his "nuanced and intensely physical embodiment of bruised masculinity.” (AFI Press Release)
Michaël R. Roskam received his Master degree in scriptwriting and development from the Binger Film Lab in 1995. He went on to make several critically acclaimed shorts including “Haun”, “Carlo”, “The One Thing To Do” and “Today Is Friday”. BULLHEAD, which Roskam wrote as well as directed, is his feature debut.
